STAY GREENPORT: HOTEL MORAINE

Looking for an amazing short getaway from the City?  We got a fabulous last minute deal from Hotels.com after my work trip had to be canceled due to rain and flooding. Everything happens for a reason right?  We ended up finding a treasure in Greenport, NY, a short two hour drive out to Long Island from NYC.  Greenport is a gem.  It has lots of green open space and the ocean too. If you go off season, it can also be an even more peaceful retreat for the family.

We stayed at the newly opened Hotel Moraine.  The welcome area had a modern transitional vibe and the outside was green and had a great view of the ocean. The room options were two queen beds, adjoining rooms, or a terrace for the first floor.  The rooms were also modern transitional and felt comfy and had ample space.  The real bonus to this hotel was the expansive grounds, plenty of outdoor space to explore for families just looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of the City. Did I mention the Ocean is right there- views or steps from your room.  I would suggest visiting during transitional or off peak season which is what we did.   If you are able to, plan for your getaway to start on a Sunday or midweek but that’s just if you are craving less crowds and quiet time.  We went in October which was perfect for some downtime.

There is plenty to do in Greenport especially in the fall, there are several farms in the area to take the kiddos on hayrides, apple picking, pumpkin patches and even donkey rides.  Lots of family fun. The boys had so much fun picking apples from the trees although we had to stop them from trying to pick the ones up off the ground.  It was great watching the boys just lying in the expansive green grass enjoying nature.  They absolutely love it and seem to thrive in nature.  Having the beach right there was amazing and the water was so nice that we didn’t mind getting wet.  We didn’t bring bathing suits because it was October in New York but that didn’t stop the boys from enjoying the water. I actually have a slight preference to the North Fork of Long Island.  This place was so family friendly and stress free and the ideal place for a getaway to decompress for the whole family.  Of course as always you have to watch autistic kids around water, Kai is so drawn to water and wants to play in it all the time.  Consider swim lessons if you have little ones that are drawn to the water.  It was a great short mini vacation for our family.  It was like the boys had their own little private island on which to explore to their heart's content.  I highly recommend Greenport & Hotel Moraine
