WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT COMPORTA
I was actually chasing a hotel when I discovered the little town of Comporta. I was scouring Small Luxury hotels of the world website as I often do and I spotted a new hotel called Quinta Da Comporta. I was like- wow, this is a beautiful space, I need to visit. I immediately looked up the location and discovered that it was a short 90minutes from Lisbon. I knew immediately, that it would make for a perfect stopover (even for just a couple of nights) during my trip to Portugal.
So I booked a 2-night stay at the hotel (very long story there for another post) and I eagerly awaited my stay. I also did minimal research on the town as I wanted to leave a little something to surprise and serendipity.
The best option would have been to rent a car, but last minute, we decided to take an Uber- just because it's a convenience we have become so accustomed to in NYC. We would later regret that decision because Comporta, its beaches, and surrounding towns are best enjoyed by car (and there are definitely no ubers in the area). There were however local taxis you could call- but those required advance booking and were relatively costly.
So cutting to the chase. here are my 5 reasons why you should visit Comporta and I'll let the pictures do the talking after that.
IT IS BEAUTIFUL: The white whites and blue blues, makes everywhere a photo-ready backdrop
IT IS AWAY FROM THE CROWDS: Not yet as known as other Portuguese towns, not as popular as Porto, even though its only 90mins from Lisbon.
THE SHOPPING IS AMAZING: Small bouties carrying unique pieces you'd want to buy. Note- it's not going to be exactly cheap, but there were plenty reasonably priced options.
UNIQUE HOTELS: See Quinta Da Comporta, Sublime Comporta, Spatia Comporta
GREAT FOOD at AFFORDABLE PRICES: See 5 Sentidos, Sal Burger, Be Comporta, Sao Jao
I don't need to say more.
