MY BEST IN BEAUTY 2017
We are now a few months into 2017 and it’s about time I highlight some of my favorite new additions to my beauty regimen. Above is a selection of new additions for my face. My biggest skincare issue lately has been dealing with hormonal acne and dry skin. Unfortunately, so many of the products I use to stave off acne usually end up drying my skin. I’ve found that the one-two punch of an acne fighter mask followed by a moisturizing mask (the Purlisse one above is a fave) the next day helps quite a bit.

Focus on Skincare: The Ordinary by Deciem deserves special mention. I stocked up on almost half their line. I’m so tired of buying beauty products that only contain a small % of the active ingredient you need, or products that have so many ingredients, it’s not clear which is working for you and what may be irritating your skin. With the Ordinary you get exactly what you’re paying for, no additives, free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, and all the other stuff that really has no place on your skin. There’s a lot of literature on their site that helps you not only identify the best products for your specific skincare concerns but also how to apply them. No more guessing which serum goes before which oil etc. You’ll think they cost an arm and a leg but the best surprise is how affordable they are.
Through the winter months, I did not do my hair many favors by my recent travels, leaving braids in too long, and just not doing what I need to do. I’m so lucky to now have above as part of my haircare regimen. All seek to moisturize and strengthen my hair.
Focus on Haircare: CurlSmith
As with skincare, it always comes down to the ingredients. The recently launched Curlsmith (Food for Curls) is about integrity and transparency in beauty. You not only learn the ingredients in each product but exactly what role they play in your hair health. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a company take such time and care in making sure that their consumer is properly educated and informed. I have been using the deep treatment oil serum like a drug and I couldn’t recommend it more.
Because I added above, I was able to clean and clear out a ton of products that I’ve been holding on to even though I know they aren’t effective.
